Up until now, expedited removal applied only to undocumented immigrants arrested within 100 miles of the border. Under the new proposal, authorities could use the process nationwide. In fact, Immigration lawyers say that nearly 300,00 non-citizens could be vulnerable. In theory, at least, the law exempts unaccompanied migrant children. Those who face persecution back home are also potentially exempt. But as the administration attacks asylum laws, these exceptions may prove fleeting.
